Eating Through The Pain

I'm doing well and following everything but have been absolutely exhausted. In part that's because I'm not getting the high from the foods I used to eat (also meaning I don't get the crash) and in part because I started work and it's getting to me.
I also found out yesterday when I ate a piece of something that had wheat in it that I am indeed allergic to wheat. In a matter of minutes, I had a killer headache that felt like my head was stuffed full of cotton. This is the same response I had a while back but because I'm so aware of everything I'm eating right now, I know for sure that that's what it is.
So even when I start adding things back in later on, that won't be one of them!
I have also been living o nuts but will have to find an alternative because my work is dedicated to making sure our campus is a free of nuts as possible because numerous kids we work with have severe nut allergies.
I've been trying to figure out what else is easy to carry around, requires no cooking and gives a boost of energy...

On another note, my grandfather died last week and I've been struggling with that because I'm an emotional eater that has no food to turn to.
He makes number 11 in the last 2 years.
I had been hoping the streak was over although I don't think it ever really ends.
It's been interesting trying to figure out other coping skills.

Day 3 & 4 - Dehydration and Interval Running

Well the cookies were not delicious. Haha.
Oh well, trial & error!
I got really dehydrated yesterday.
I found myself in Target feeling really dizzy and faint and could barely make it to the Starbucks counter (which is also inside Target) to ask for a cup of water.
This shouldn't have happened because I'm supposed to be drinking massive amounts of water but because of the Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) that I have, water goes right through me without absorbing into my body unless I eat enough salt.
I've been used to getting enough salt because on top of adding it into everything I eat, there's already tons of it in all packaged and processed food.
So by cutting that food out, I've cut out a huge amount of (unhealthy) salt.
All day today I've been adding even more sea salt (I have this pink himalayan salt that I love!) which seems to be helping a bit.

I also did some interval running yesterday where I run for 20 seconds and walk for 10 seconds.
I made it through 5 rounds of it and then just spent the rest of the time running for as long of stretches as I could and then walking to recover until I'd gone the entire mile.

I've been using MapMyRun.com which is a really cool free program where I can map where I'm running to measure the distances and remember how long it took, how hard it was, find out the calories burned and see improvement as time goes on.

I've gone 7.12 miles since Sunday.

I also started wearing my pedometer again and yesterday alone I walked over 6,500 steps (2,000 is about a mile).

M.A.P. Day 2

Day 2!
I've been doing really well so far!
I've stayed within the guidelines and have been eating lots of fruit and nuts!
A few weeks back, I agreed to bake cookies for a job training I have tonight so instead of ditching the idea, I got creative and put together ingredients to make cookies I could eat too!
They're baking now so my fingers are crossed that they'll taste good!

I'm off to take them out of the oven!

Results, a Race and Another Challenge!!

So the contest is over!

When I started this Flab to Fab Contest I looked like this:

And this is me now after the 8 weeks:

And the Stats:

Before:

Waist- 46 inches
Hips- 47.5 inches
Bust- 41.5 inches
Thigh(R)- 31 inches
Upper Arm(L)- 13.5 inches

After:

Waist- 34 inches
Hips- 43 inches
Bust- 38 inches
Thigh(R)- 28 inches
Upper Arm(L)- 12.5 inches

That's 24 inches lost in all!
(Even though the weight itself just about evened itself out.)

Now I'm up for another challenge.

I've just signed up for London Personal Trainer Dax Moy's 30 day M.A.P (Metabolic Acceleration Protocol) fat loss challenge and as part of it, I'll be blogging my way through.
Dax has done some great programs in the past and I'm really excited to commit fully to trying this one!

I have no doubt that it will live up to being a challenge because included in the off-limits foods are
* Caffeine
*Alcohol
*Dairy
*Wheat Products
*Processed Food
*Sugar

Yes, you read that right. Wheat, processed food and sugar. Not to mention that we're not supposed to use the microwave....Oy vey.

I'm up to the challenge though and have agreed to stick to it for 30 days.

Oh! I also ran in another race today!!

It was a mile long race through downtown San Rafael which meant I had to get up at 5:15 this morning to drive there in time for the 7:20 start.
My time was 15:18 which while not my best time still shows how far I've come.
I was by far the last one (in the 18 and under age category) but as I was running someone was yelling "You're an inspiration!"
It was really great to hear that as just last night I was debating if I really wanted to show up knowing that it could be embarrassing being the last one to come in.
Then I remember where I was a mere year ago when the doctors were looking into getting me a cane so that I might be able to walk around the block again.
The idea of walking around the block was HUGE and scary.

And now I'm busy preparing for the San Francisco Marathon's 5k/Progressive Marathon.
The progressive marathon means that from now until race day (July 25th) I have to complete 23.1 miles on my own (my sister who'll be doing the race with me will be completing her own 23.1 miles) and track them and then do the final 3.1 miles (5k) on race day.
So by the end of next month I will have completed a progressive marathon!

Today I realized that I need to look in the mirror realize where I've been, where I am now and the potential I have for the future.

Here 'goes!!
